POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Exchange Manager
coordinates TNS Canada's network of sustainability leaders
and practitioners. The candidate does so by working closely
with program teams and by communicating directly with
members. The Exchange Manager will facilitate online
dialogues with members, manage a member-only website,
and further develop the membership.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and Delivery of Offerings
* Coordinate, host, and facilitate 2-3 online dialogues per
month based on member interest and advisor input
* Identify dialogue topics and speakers and build a calendar
of dialogues for 2010 and 2011
* Manage member-only website at
http://www.thenaturalstep.org/exchange/ by finding relevant,
reputable, and current resources from members,
organizations, and various sources
* Create and monitor forums among several sub-communities
of The Exchange
* Coordinate and organize a minimal number of informal
in-person events for members
* Build partnerships with other organizations to help share
resources, tools, and dialogue speakers

Member Management
* Develop relationships with members to turn their issues
into dialogue topics and to ensure The Exchange continues to
be valuable
* Develop relationships among members to help foster a sense
of community
* Foster peer learning and exchange in the dialogues and
in-person events
* Identify and develop sub-communities in partnership with
program teams
* For new recruits send a personal welcome email and member
package

Sales
* Solicit new memberships in partnership with program teams
* Build a strategy that works to meet revenue targets for membership
* Maintain and report on membership sales pipeline

Communications
* Write a quarterly update for members called The Blotter
* Capture and share member stories to highlight sustainability activities
* Support outreach communications such as blogs related to
The Exchange in partnership with the Communications team
* Update The Exchange public website

Project Management
* Report activity at staff meetings
* Manage and report to a Steering Committee 3 times per year
* Liaise with Finance Manager and program managers on The
Exchange budget
* Report to Executive Director on progress related to Annual
Plan objectives for The Exchange
* Report to Exchange-specific funders and contribute to
fundraising reports
* Participate in program meetings

Evaluation
* Continually evaluate the successes and challenges of running
The Exchange throughout the year via surveys conducted
after every Exchange event and debriefs with presenters
* Conduct year-end evaluation, integrate lessons learned
into 2011 strategy, and write end-of year evaluation reports

Strategy
* Create a 2011 plan for The Exchange based on 2010
evaluations of the program. This includes building a 2011
calendar for offerings including dialogues, in-person
events, and member-only website development
* Contribute to strategic planning sessions regarding the
future of The Exchange

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
* An undergraduate degree from a recognized institution.
Studies in the field of business, communications,
organizational development, or other related field an asset.
* Education and/or experience in building, developing,
facilitating, managing, and/or coordinating communities of
practice or networks an asset.
* 3-5 years of relevant work experience. Experience related
to project management, program development, community
building, and other related topics an asset.
* Experience in working closely with people i.e. clients or members.
* Experience in being part of a learning or peer-exchange community.
* Experience in having developed or managed a new program an
asset including having collaborated across an organization to
pull in different people and ideas.

KEY CAPABILITIES
This position demands a professional individual with
highly-developed organizational skills and attributes.
Specific skills include:
* A strong interest in and knowledge of sustainability
issues and a basic understanding of The Natural Step Framework
* Facilitation skills, preferably in an online environment
* Strong project management skills and attention to detail
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Relationship development and client management skills
* Entrepreneurial skills including the desire to create new
ideas, synthesize ideas, take initiative, critical thinking,
and exploring new ways of doing things
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and be accountable
for deliverables and budget
* Collaborative personality, good problem-solving skills
* Highly motivated and able to work well in a team
* High degree of computer and web 2.0 literacy

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with skill,
