Position: Organic Farmer / Educator

Location: Delta, Tsawwassen, British Columbia

Earthwise Society, a non-profit society, has an opportunity
for an enthusiastic and dedicated organic farmer to join our
team, working to raise awareness about sustainable
agriculture at the Boundary Bay Earthwise Garden and Farm in
South Delta, BC. Reporting to the Executive Director, the
Farmer/Educator will be responsible for planning and
managing farming activities, delivering educational
programs, engaging community participation and contributing
as part of a team to the successful establishment of
operations of Earthwise Farm.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage implementation of the Earthwise Farm Business Plan
- In consultation with the Executive Director, plan and
manage farm operations
- Conduct daily farming activities necessary for the
successful operation of the two acre Earthwise Farm
- Manage farm staffing resources: train and supervise
apprentices and volunteers;hire and train staff as required
- Implement programs to engage community participation
through volunteer and apprenticeship programs, special
events, and other opportunities
- Develop and implement marketing plans for the Farm
including farm gate sales,farmer's markets, and direct sales
- Set up and manage a community supported agriculture
program - Deliver farm educational programs including a high
school program in Sustainable Agriculture
- Co-ordinate on-site allotment gardens, handle renewals,
liase with gardeners
- Develop and manage farm budgets
- Assist with funding proposals, manage contracts and report
to funding agencies
- Maintain Organic Certification standards in farm
operations, liaise with Organic Certification agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Post-secondary graduation in agriculture, horticulture, or
a related discipline
* Thorough knowledge of sustainable and organic agriculture
and experience with farming
* Experience with small business or small farm operations
* Experience managing staff and volunteers
* Experience with the operation of farm equipment and
irrigation systems
* Basic carpentry and mechanical skills
* Ability to deliver educational programs for school
students or adults
* Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication
skills
* Experience with Social Enterprise models an asset

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a part-time to full time position, located at
Boundary Bay Earthwise Garden and Farm in Tsawwassen, BC.
Weekend work is required, must have reliable vehicle & valid
driver's license.
