Position: Environmental Education Assistant – Changing Currents Program

Position Description: We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and well organized individual to assist in the implementation of the Fall 2010 Changing Currents program. This program engages intermediate and senior level students in stream monitoring sessions in order to raise awareness about the reality and importance of water health. The program also helps connect students to their natural environment (often for the first time). The successful candidate will assist in leading stream study sessions, assist with program administration, and help with resource development.
This is a short-term 11-week contract position from late August to early November.
Position Responsibilities/Tasks:
* Assist with the facilitation of stream monitoring session with students in grade 7-12
* Assist with communications with teachers before sessions to arrange session logistics
* Communicate with teachers post-session to ensure proper use of verified data
* Assist in supporting stewardship actions after stream study completion
* Assist in the development of new resources to improve the Changing Currents program
Essential Qualifications:
* University degree or college diploma in environmental studies or an environmentally-related discipline
* Ontario Benthic Bio-Monitoring Network (OBBN) certification
* Experience (paid or volunteer) in facilitating workshops with students or community members
* Experience (paid or volunteer) in environmental programming or monitoring
* Proven time management skills
* Well demonstrated organizational skills
* Clear communication skills - both written and verbal
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment
* Comfort with putting on hip waders and getting into streams!
* Valid G Drivers' Permit

Salary: $28,000 pro-rated to 11-week contract
