Sustainable Prosperity (SP) has an opening for a Research Associate in the environment-economy area. We invite all potential candidates to submit their application by August 12th, 2010. The position starts early September, but can be adjusted depending on availability.
Sustainable Prosperity (SP) is a policy and research network of academics, together with business, policy and environment leaders who hold the shared objective of seeing Canada transition to a stronger, greener economy. SP's particular mandate is to examine the use of market-based policy instruments that can create positive economic and environmental outcomes. SP's work focuses (i) on the development and promotion of innovation in policy and markets; and (ii) the promotion of interdisciplinary research on environment-economy issues through the SSHRC-supported SP Research Network. To support this work, SP's Secretariat -- based at the University of Ottawa -- is in need of research assistance. The Research Associate will work with all three of the senior staff at SP -- the Executive Director, the Senior Director, Policy and Markets, and the Director of Research, as well as with the academics across Canada in the network. In particular, the Research Associate will:
* Carry out targeted research projects on environment-economy issues
* Assist in the "translation" of research reports and products coming out of the SP Research Network into policy products (such as the SP Policy Briefs)
* Track major research and policy trends and initiatives of relevance to SP's mandate and function
* Assist in the maintenance and management of SP's contacts database
* Assist in the maintenance and management of SP's website
* Help to coordinate and manage network research projects and events
* Carry out other assignments as needed
The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years experience working on environment and economy issues, and previously have carried out policy research in this area. More specifically, the candidate should:
* Have completed at minimum a Masters-level degree (preferably in environmental economics or related field);
* Possess strong written communication skills (writing samples are required as part of the application process);
* Be able to demonstrate a solid understanding of environment-economy policy issues, and specifically of the role and potential contribution of market-based instruments;
* Work well independently, with a capacity to multi-task.
* Have past research experience
* Be willing to work in a dynamic and entrepreneurial work environment.
* Bilingual (French and English) capacity is an important asset
This is a full-time position, based in Ottawa. Salary is competitive with the public sector, and commensurate with experience.

Le réseau de recherche et de politiques Sustainable Prosperity (SP) est formé d'universitaires, de gens d'affaires, de décideurs et de chefs de file en environnement qui se sont donnés pour objectif d'assurer la transition du Canada vers une économie plus forte et davantage axée sur l'environnement . Le mandat particulier du réseau SP est d'examiner l'utilisation des instruments stratégiques axés sur les marchés susceptibles de donner des résultats positifs sur les plans de l'économie et de l'environnement. Le réseau concentre ses travaux sur l'élaboration et la promotion de l'innovation en matière de politiques et de marchés, ainsi que sur la promotion de la recherche interdisciplinaire sur des questions touchant l'environnement et l'économie par l'entremise de son réseau de recherche bénéficiant du soutien du CRSH. Pour appuyer ces travaux, le secrétariat du réseau SP, qui œuvre depuis l'Université d'Ottawa, est à la recherche d'un associé de recherche. Le titulaire du poste travaillera en collaboration avec les trois membres de la haute direction du réseau SP, soit le directeur exécutif, le directeur principal, Politiques et marchés, et le directeur de la recherche, ainsi qu'avec les universitaires des quatre coins du pays membres du réseau. L'associé de recherche devra notamment :
* mener des projets de recherche ciblés sur des questions touchant l'environnement et l'économie;
* participer à la « traduction » des rapports de recherche et des produits issus des travaux du réseau SP en produits stratégiques (par exemple, en notes d'information);
* assurer le suivi des grandes tendances en matière de recherche et de politiques sur des questions pertinentes au mandat et aux fonctions du réseau SP;
* participer à la tenue à jour et à la gestion de la base de données des personnes‑ressources du réseau SP;
* participer à la tenue à jour et à la gestion du site Web du réseau SP;
* participer à la coordination et à la gestion des projets de recherche et des activités du réseau;
* exécuter d'autres tâches en fonction des besoins.
Le candidat idéal possède entre une et trois années d'expérience dans le traitement de questions touchant l'environnement et l'économie, et a déjà mené des recherches sur les politiques dans ce domaine. Plus particulièrement, le candidat doit satisfaire aux critères suivants :
* être titulaire d'un diplôme de maîtrise à tout le moins, de préférence en économie environnementale ou dans un domaine connexe;
* posséder d'excellentes aptitudes en communication écrite (des échantillons de textes doivent être fournis dans le cadre du processus de candidature);
* avoir une compréhension solide des questions touchant les politiques en matière d'environnement et d'économie, notamment du rôle et de la contribution potentielle d'instruments axés sur les marchés;
* être capable de bien travailler de manière autonome et d'exécuter plusieurs tâches de front;
* avoir de l'expérience en recherche;
* être prêt à œuvrer dans un milieu de travail dynamique et axé sur l'entreprenariat;
* savoir s'exprimer en anglais et en français (atout important).
Il s'agit d'un poste à temps plein, situé à Ottawa. La rémunération offerte fait concurrence à celle du secteur public, et est fonction de l'expérience du candidat retenu.
